UPCOMING EVENTS:   At our Jun 25, 2011 dance, we plan to celebrate the June birthdays. On Jul 2, 2011 we plan to celebrate the 4th of July by having an indoor pot luck picnic menu consisting of hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, potato chips, and dessert. Drinks consisting of soda pop, water, and coffee will be provided.  The signup sheet for the potluck picnic is at the front desk. PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  We are well into the summer season and I cannot stress enough how important your attendance is to our Saturday night dances. We really need your support! During these slow months our expenses do not diminish. Our club is fortunate that our regular bands are willing to work with us as much as possible. If you look around the room and do not see some of your regular friends attending the dance, it would be appreciated if you could contact them and tell them that they are missed and we’d like to have them return (as long as they are not snowbirds, of course). If you know of anyone that might be interested in attending our dances, please extend an invitation to them and inform them of our dress code standards, in order for them not be refused entry to the dance.

For the upcoming November election, we will need 5 members to volunteer to serve on the nominating committee. The Nominating committee must be in place by the end of August. If you would be willing to serve on this committee, please see me.

It appears that we are having a bit of success with our HOST/HOSTESS program. We wish to thank the people who have performed this service for us and encourage others to volunteer so we can keep the program going. It gives everybody an opportunity to be on the dance floor. On this note, I will end with the hope that everyone will continue having a good time. I thank everyone for all their efforts to keep our dances continuing every Saturday night.  We look forward to everyone having enjoyable Saturday evenings. Dance!  Dance!  Dance!

EVENTS:  Club members are encouraged to attend the following meetings to discuss and vote on, when necessary, actions the club is planning to execute. A synopsis of the board meeting will also be given at these meeting. Please show your membership card to gain admittance to the meeting on the stage of the auditorium behind the curtain.

April 4, 2011 – Board of Directors meeting.

April 9, 2011 – Members meeting held at Payne Park Auditorium from 6:30– 7:30 PM prior to the dance.

May 2, 2011 – Board of Directors meeting.

May 7, 2011 – Members meeting held at Payne Park Auditorium from 6:30– 7:30 PM prior to the dance.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  On April 23, 2011, we plan to celebrate the Easter/Passover holiday. Plan to wear pastel colors.  At our Apr 30, 2011 dance, we plan to celebrate the April birthdays. On May 28th, we will celebrate Memorial Day and May birthdays. Don’t forget that donations of snacks or sweets to share with the club would be appreciated for all Saturdays as we would like our Saturday night dances to be considered social events. Due to the increasing number of people attending our dance, PLEASE be considerate of others while partaking of the snacks.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  As we watch our snowbird attendees return to their Northern homes, we wish them a safe journey home and will anxiously await their return in the fall. As the snowbirds leave, it is important that our local dance attendees continue to support us during the leaner summer months. If you have any suggestions for special activities we can do during the summer, please place them in the suggestion box on the entry table. The club has started several promotion projects which include a HOST program where several of our male attendees are performing Host duties of dancing with ladies that do not have a partner for dancing. Note the HOST designator on their name tag. Since this is intended to get more ladies on the floor to dance rather than sitting alone at a table, the hosts will not be dancing every dance with the same lady. We have also asked the bands to include an extra “Ladies Choice” dance around 7:45 PM. There is a dance program posted on the bulletin board in the Lobby for all to check to see when the “mixers” and “Ladies Choice” dances are.  Under our membership section of this newsletter we mention how we will reward attendees if they bring a new male into the club that is not their date for the night. We are attempting to eliminate some of the work load on our dance attendees by us now providing disposable plastic tablecloths, so they can be easily thrown out at the end of the night. We are constantly attempting to make things easier and more enjoyable for everyone. It would be a dream come true, if we could ALL just come in for a few hours, forget all of our troubles and woes, and just have a good time. So keep on dancing the night away as if there’s no tomorrow. There is just NOW. Remember, Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!

Marie Billups, President

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  The following topics I wish to bring to your attention:

1. Thank you for your help in all our endeavors. The response we got from our last newsletter was not overwhelming. We still need someone to fill the position of Secretary and to help with the newsletter.

2.  Everything has been going along smoothly and we have been able to meet our financial obligations.

3.  If anybody loses anything and is not sure where they lost it, PLEASE, PLEASE check with our President or Vice President to make sure it was not lost at Payne Park. The city maintains a lost and found section and allows the tenants to check it periodically for the lost articles because anything left for over 30 days is automatically donated to Goodwill by the city.

4.  We are having a Valentine’s Day dance on February 12th, and we are looking forward to people dressing in their gala attire and being innovative and creative in their food contributions for that evening.

5. We are planning a St. Patrick’s Day celebration on March 12th at which time we celebrate the wearing of the green.

6.  If anyone would like information about the club or newsletters emailed to them, please PRINT your name and email address on the form at the entry table. This applies to both MEMBERS and GUESTS!! I cannot emphasize how important it is to please PRINT the information.

So let’s keep meeting with old friends, greeting new friends, and keep on dancing.   Marie Billups, President

There will be no Board nor Membership meetings in December 2010.

January 17, 2011 – Board of Directors meeting.

January 22, 2011 – Members meeting held at Payne Park Auditorium from 6:30– 7:30 PM prior to the dance.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  For December 25, 2010 and January 1, 2011 there will be no dances. Have a Happy Holiday season!!!

At our Dec 18, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate the December birthdays, and the holiday season.  Plan to wear holiday attire to celebrate the Holiday Season. As the club’s gift to our paid up members, their discounted entry fee will be $5 for that night.

At our Jan 29, 2011 dance, we plan to celebrate January birthdays.

Don’t forget that donations of snacks or sweets will be accepted for those evenings to share with our club. Due to the increasing number of people attending our dance, PLEASE be considerate of others while partaking of the snacks.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  In the last Newsletter, I posed a couple of questions for our members: ‘Just how important is our Club to us? Do we really care enough to give of ourselves to make the club successful in order to survive?’ (Our membership has been picking up thanks to our special membership drive. If you are unaware of the details of our membership drive please ask the membership chairperson.) Now back to the topic: Our Board members are over burdened by tasks that need to be performed to continue on with our club.  There are many who offer criticisms and suggestions, but none to step up to the plate to help perform those tasks. If no such help is provided, our club stands to disintegrate. Many of us find enjoyment in attending and socializing with friends along with the dancing. This is about the only place that people in our age group can come to and have a good time on a Saturday night. Unfortunately, with only a handful of people willing to help, it has become too difficult to keep our dances ongoing.  I cannot stress how important it is for us to put forth a joint effort.  I realize that everybody pays their dues and entry fees, but there are those of us who are willing to go over and beyond the call of duty to put forth the effort to keep our dances going. With all this in mind, hopefully, we can continue holding our weekly dances and have an enjoyable time.  I wish to encourage all of our members and usual guests to continue advocating our dances and attempting to bring in new guests whenever possible. I sincerely thank you for your indulgence and cooperation. I would like to take this opportunity to wish everybody and their families a Happy Holiday Season. Marie Billups, President

A synopsis of the board meeting will also be given at these meetings. Please show your membership card to gain admittance to the meeting on the stage of the auditorium behind the curtain.

November 20, 2010 – Members meeting held at Payne Park Auditorium from 6:30– 7:30 PM prior to the dance.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  For December 25, 2010 and January 1, 2011 there will be no dances. Have a Happy Holiday season!!!

At our Oct 30, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate the October birthdays, and to have a Halloween Party.  Plan to come in costume   for the Halloween party because we will be giving awards for most original, scariest, and weird costumes.

Starting Nov 6, 2010 our dance hours change to 7:30 to 10:30 PM. Our meeting times will change appropriately also.

At our Nov 27, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate November birthdays and Thanksgiving.

Don’t forget that donations of snacks or sweets will be accepted for those evenings to share with our club. Due to the number of people attending our dance, please be considerate of others while partaking of the snacks.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  Autumn is upon us and we are anxiously awaiting the return of the snowbirds with open arms. Since our newsletter is only printed once every two months, we will attempt to keep everyone informed of any events that affect our club, by, on occasion, printing an addendum.  Now to the business at hand. Our weekly attendance has really been fluctuating of late. So we must return to our usual fees of $8 for members and $11 for guests.  I wish to encourage all of our members and usual guests to advocate our dances and attempt to bring in new guests whenever possible. At present our strongest asset is the regular attendance every Saturday night by as many of our usual attendees as possible in order to keep our club ongoing. The big questions are: Just how important is our Club to us? Do we really care enough to give of ourselves to make the club successful in order to survive?  We’re all aware of the state of the economy and its effect on all of us. With only the usual handful of members performing the countless tasks does NOT constitute success for our club. I cannot stress how important it is for us to put forth a joint effort in order to be able to continue to meet our financial obligations. There is strength in numbers, so please, try to make it to our Saturday night dances on a more regular basis.  With all this in mind, hopefully, we can continue holding our weekly dances and have an enjoyable time. I sincerely thank you for your indulgence and cooperation.  Marie Billups, President

FREE GROUP DANCE LESSON:  Saturdays from 7:15 to 8:00 PM – if instructors are available

                —————————————————————————-

EVENTS:  There is no Board meeting, nor membership meeting in August. Board and Membership meetings will resume in September. September 25th should be reserved by Club members to attend a membership meeting to discuss and vote on, when necessary, actions the club is planning to execute. Please show your membership card to gain admittance to the meeting on the stage of the auditorium behind the curtain.

September 25, 2010 – Members meeting held at Payne Park Auditorium from 7 – 8 PM prior to the dance.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

At our August 28, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate the August birthdays.

At our September 4, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate Labor Day and the end of summer.

At our September 25, 2010 dance, we plan to celebrate September birthdays.

No one is obligated, but we would appreciate people bringing in snacks, hors d’oeuvres, or sweets those evenings to share with the club. It is not necessary for people to spend a lot of money on these refreshments, since many small food items provide a sampling for the whole club.  We will set up a table in the back.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:

We are halfway through our summer months. We have been extremely fortunate that, not only have we been able to meet our financial obligations, but up to now, it appears our member and guest numbers have been increasing despite the fact that we are in the middle of our off-season. It would be a big feather in our cap if we could keep heading in a positive direction. However, due to recent developments, we are all aware of a new source of competition arising. We trust that our members and guests will persevere in their support to our club, and we will prevail while we await the cavalry (the snowbirds) to return again. In the meantime, I want to thank those of our members who have been working diligently to keep our numbers up, those who work on our food tables, and all of those who stay after the dance to help clean-up. Last, but most certainly not least, let us not forget how thankful we are for our instructors making the dance lessons available to our attendees, and the attendees for displaying their appreciation to them by participating in the dance class. We are not out of the woods yet. Let’s continue advocating our dances and membership. (It appears that our dances are not only DANCES, but they give us the opportunity to socialize with friends). Let us push forward and continue to attempt to provide a good time to be had by ALL.

PRESIDENT’S NOTE:  First of all, I wish for everyone to notice our mailing address has changed. Check the heading on this newsletter for our new mailing address. I wish to give honorary mention to some of our members who have been busy like bees diligently working on a regular basis to keep our club afloat.  Some of the tasks that they have performed are over and above the call of duty such as playing a Bose radio during the band breaks, advertising the dance through flyers, business cards, and the sign announcing the Saturday night dance at their own expense, helping with the 50/50 raffle and the scholarship fund collections, providing finger foods for the club every Saturday night, assisting the membership and publicity chairpeople, providing the cards for the Sunshine functions, promoting club activities, making announcements to the dance attendees,  giving advise about club business, providing computer support for the newsletters, membership lists, agendas for the board and membership meetings, flyers for our picnic, and a list of announcements to be made at the dance.  Also I thank the  people who have helped us get our table cloths ready for use, set up the tables for finger foods, clean up after the dances, and organize the rummage sale for October.  We appreciate the donations of Mothers Day flowers and monies for our treasury and picnic items. As a matter of fact, to all our attendees, just coming to the Saturday night dance is showing support for the club. Our heartfelt thanks go out to all. Moving on, we’re looking forward to having successful fundraisers. We are still open to ideas and suggestions as to the type of fundraisers we could have. Let’s wish ourselves luck with our future endeavors.
